Derrell Wallace

Assistant Director of Bands - Bohls Band

Mr. Wallace is in his 8th year of teaching overall and 3rd with Pflugerville ISD. He began his career by returning to his hometown of Terrell, Tx where he taught for 4 years. To be able to give back to the community that he came from is something that was always important to him and a time that he will always cherish. While there, he was able to lead the  middle school campus to its first superior ratings in the non varsity ensemble the town had ever received. During that time, he also was very active with the high school marching band by running visual and full ensemble rehearsals.

Before becoming a band director, Mr. Wallace attended Texas A&M University – Commerce and earned a degree in Music Education. As a student, he sat as principal tubist in the university’s wind ensemble, participated in jazz band, various chamber ensembles, served as president of Phi Mu Alpha (Pi Psi) and marched with The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps for the 2010 & 2011 seasons. Upon the completion of that degree, he attended Oklahoma City University where he received his Master’s in Tuba Performance. During this time, he assisted with the direction of various marching bands in both North Texas and Central Oklahoma.  He is also honored to be a staff member at The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps for his 4th season teaching brass and visual at The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps.

In his free time, he enjoys kayaking, fishing, cooking, traveling and spending time with his pitbull, Apollo.

Mr. Wallace is beyond excited to create a student-centered culture where reciprocated positive influence is the constant. The most valuable thing we can offer in life, to both ourselves and others, is time and he cannot wait to spend his time with the community that is Bohls Middle School.
